The town was discovered by Firoz shah Tuglaq in 14th century. His son name was Fateh khan. so he gave the name fatehabad to the town.
On 15th july, 1997, the fatehabad district carved out of hisar district.
Before this, fatehabad was a tehsil. in 1889, 15 villages were transferred from kaithal tehsil to fatehabad tehsil. these 15 villages form a block known as budhlada.
when barwala tehsil abolished, its area was divided into three tehsils. 13 villages to haansi, 24 villages to hisar and 102 villages to fatehabad.
at the same time, a sub tehsil came into existance at tohana in fatehabad.
Ratia tehsil in fatehabad was created in 1979.
by the end of 1978, the hisar district has 486 villages divided into different tehsils as follows :
